For the past two seasons, Mighty Blackpool FC has been battling with series of power struggle and management problems. This new national executive headed by Sulaiman Zainu Parker is expected to bring sanity to the team.
Chairman Parker said the retreat was to find possible ways to help overcome the challenges of the players and the technical staff. “From the funding we received from FIFA and CAF, we realize that it is time to bring all the players together, talk to them, discuss with them so that we will understand their problems and equally expect them to communicate to us what have been the challenges,” he stated, adding, “As a steering committee we expect them to live up to our expectations because we do have specific goals. We are working to rebrand Mighty Blackpool and that is the theme of this retreat. The main purpose of this retreat is to bring together the steering committee and players and steer them in a common the direction.”
Head Coach of Mighty Blackpool, Chernor Mansaray said the retreat at Songo village would send a positive message to the Tiss Tass Boys and will motivate players who had joined other rivals football clubs to rejoin their beloved club. “We need Mighty Blackpool to come back to its feet, as supporters are moving to other teams. We don’t want that to continue that is why we have started preparing the minds of our players and also the technical staff that we are ready to lift the face of the Mighty Blackpool again,” he said.
The club was founded in 1923 under the named Soko United and they are the oldest successful football club in Sierra Leone. Having won the Premier League many times and the FA cups four times, the name of the club is derived from admiration of Blackpool Football Club in England.
